Why does my betta keep hiding under rocks?

So I've had my male betta for 5 months and i've noticed from the very beginning that he really likes shoving himself under his plastic rocks at the bottom of his home. He just stays there then comes out again and swims about. Is this normal for a betta fish to do? He is eating properly and seems very content so I don't think he's sick.
