I can't bite down all the way with my braces... I am concerned this will ruin my bite.?

I just got brackets put on my back molars and the orthodontist put bite pads on the bottom of my top teeth so that I don't bite down and push my bracket right off. but I can't bite down all the way. there is a big gap when I bite down between my top row of teeth and my bottom row of teeth. before i had this problem, my bite was almost perfect. but I have these rubber bands, but I am concerned that if I wear them while I can't bite down all the way, it will mess up my bite completely. what do I do? I feel like my orthodontist is purposely doing this to add more tile that I need my braces on and I'm f****** pissed. I just want my braces off.
